Lamar County Animal Services is committed to placing animals into safe, responsible homes. Our adoption program is structured to support positive outcomes while maintaining public safety and responsible ownership standards.
Adoption is a long-term commitment. We encourage all adopters to carefully consider their decision before proceeding.
Adoption Fees

$75.00 Adoption Fee – All Dogs and Cats

Additional fees may apply depending on spay/neuter and rabies vaccination services
Adoption fees help offset the cost of care provided to animals while in our custody.

Spay/Neuter & Rabies Requirements
In accordance with Georgia law, all adopted animals must be sterilized and vaccinated against rabies.
Adopters must choose one of the following options:

Use LCAS Partnership Clinic (HELP Spay/Neuter Clinic)

Use a Private Licensed Veterinarian
If using a private veterinarian, adopters must:

Provide proof of sterilization and rabies vaccination within 30 days, or
-
Provide proof of a scheduled appointment within that timeframe
Failure to comply may result in enforcement action.
Health & Behavior Disclaimer
Animals are evaluated while in our care; however:

LCAS does not guarantee health after adoption
-
LCAS does not guarantee temperature or behavior outside the shelter environment
Adopters assume full responsibility for:

Veterinary care
-
Training and behavioral management
-
Ongoing care and supervision
We strongly recommend scheduling a veterinary exam immediately after adoption.
Adoption Policies

All adoption fees are non-refundable

All adoptions are final
-
LCAS does not guarantee compatibility with children, pets, or environments

Animals are adopted as companion animals only
Exception to Adoption Finality
Returns may only be considered under mitigating circumstances involving public safety risk, including:

Biting
-
Attacking
-
Severe aggression posing a safety concern
All cases are reviewed by the Director or designee.
Adoption Responsibility
By adopting, you agree to:

Provide humane care and appropriate living conditions
-
Not use the animal for fighting or aggressive activity
-
Maintain full responsibility for the animal after adoption
Failure to comply with the adoption agreement may result in:

Repossession of the animal
-
Enforcement action under county ordinance or state law
