Department Information

The Building and Zoning Department is responsible for issuing building permits and conducting inspections for all construction activities in the unincorporated areas of Lamar County. The department ensures compliance with the County's Zoning Ordinance by issuing permits only for permitted uses within a particular zoning district. Rezoning, Special Exception and Variance requests to the Zoning Ordinance are processed in the office.

This department is also the County's Planning Office, the Erosion and Sedimentation Control Review and Inspection Office, the Floodplain Management Office and the Code Enforcement Office.

The department is organized under a department head (Zoning Administrator) with an Administrative Assistant/Permit Clerk and a Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer to carry out the many and various tasks assigned to the department.
