The Magistrate Court of Lamar County is where citizens can seek justice or redress without a lawyer's assistance.

The Magistrate Court handles civil and criminal matters.

Anyone wishing to file a civil suit, dispossessory, garnishment, personal property foreclosure, or for an abandoned vehicle, may do so. The civil cases can award a monetary judgment up to $15,000.00; if the amount claimed exceeds $15,000.00 then filing in Superior Court may be the best solution.

In criminal matters, this office can issue law enforcement officers' arrest and search warrants. We also hold pre-warrant hearings for citizens wishing to pursue criminal charges against someone. Deposit account fraud warrants can be obtained here by the person or business in receipt of bad checks. The office is open standard business hours and judges are on call for emergencies.
