Board of Elections

Department Information:

   The Lamar County Board of Elections and Registration was established on January 1st, 2008. The Board consists of a representative from the municipality of Barnesville, Milner, The Democratic Party, Republican Party, and the County Commission.

General Information: 

   - You must register or change your address at least 30 days before an election in Georgia

   - There are special requirements if you register for the first time in Georgia by mail

   - Once you are registered to vote, you will receive a Voter Precinct Card which lists your voting location and representative districts

Qualifications to register:

   - You must be a citizen of the United States

   - You must be a resident of Lamar County

   - You must be at least 17 1/2 years old (You can only vote in active elections after turning 18)

Where to Register: 

   1. Visit us in person at our office 

   2. Call us at 770-358-5235

   3. Register to vote when you get your driver's license.

   4. Pick up an application at government service centers, city halls, or senior centers

   5. You may print the form (must be signed and mailed in)

   6. Register at the Lamar County Library when you apply for a library card; or any time you are at the library you may pick up a blank application and mail it in yourself.

 

When to register: 

   - The last day to register for ANY election is 30 days prior to the election date

   - Any mail-in applications must be postmarked by 30 days prior to that election

   - If you move, you MUST notify us 30 days prior to any election. 

   - If you are not sure about your registration, please call or email us. 

   - If you move to another county, you MUST re-register in that county. You can use the State of Georgia Application for Voter Registration form. 

   - If you have moved at all (even within the same county) please make us aware of your new address. We may have to help you get re-registered for voting.

 

Registering to vote for the first time in Georgia by mail:

If the first time that you register to vote in Georgia is by mail, there are additional requirements: Enclose a copy of one of the allowable types of I.D. in the same envelope with your registration application. If you forget to enclose your I.D. with your application, it could delay your voting process the first time you go to the polls.

​Poll Workers:

​Requirements:​

- Must be a U.S. Citizen

- Must be a current Lamar County Resident or adjoining county resident

- Must be a minimum of 16 years of age

- Must have the ability to read/write/speak the English language, bilingual is helpful but not necessary

- Must be able to work a full day at the polls, Election Days are approximately 14 hour days

- Must not hold a current Public Office position

- Is not a parent, spouse, child, brother, sister, or in-law of a candidate whose name appears on the ballot in the precinct in which the poll worker will be assigned during a primary or election

- Must not have ever been convicted of a felony

- Basic computer skills are helpful

Positions:

- Manager

- Assistant Manager

- Clerk

All positions are required to attend training sessions and study the station instructions. It is recommended to meet with your precinct the Monday before Election Day to preset up the polling precinct.

Duties:

- Check Identification

- Assist voters in filling out Voter Certificates (if necessary)

- Mark voters on Elections list

- Write voter's names on Numbered list of voters

- Create and issue Voter Access Cards

- Direct voters to proper voting unit

- Ensure voters return Voter Access Cards

- Ensure voter verifies their ballot and submits their ballot into the scanner

- Assist any positions as needed. We are a team; we all work together to ensure the accuracy and integrity of all elections

- Assist with opening and closing of the polls

- Disassemble voting units (must be able to lift at least 25 pounds)

- Assist with paperwork as necessary

Pay rate:

The base pay rate for a poll worker on election day is $120 per election Minimum Hours are 6am-Closeout (after 7pm)
